De Kunstenaars

"Young Collectors" september - december 2013

Born in 1980 in Germany. Lives and works in Vienna.

Sarah Ortmeyer’s practice is based on her research and interest in history, often exploring overlooked connections between cultural and political issues. She has a keen interest in human interrelations, whether contemporary or historic, highbrow or lowbrow, academic or pop. Ortmeyer makes use of such varied icons as Chanel, German reunification, Emmanuel Kant, and the Eiffel Tower to create her pieces, putting together new myths from available signs, meanings and stories. By deconstructing, re-assembling and reconfiguring images, words and classic materials, she creates new arrangements that make unpredictable relations surface.
