Les Artistes

 "Pair(s)" september - december 2015

Born in France in 1949, he lives and works in Paris and Aignay-le-Duc.

Bertrand Lavier is a critical re-inventor of the ready-made who explores the heritage of Marcel Duchamp and the ‘Nouveau Réalistes.’ In the 1980’s he started making ‘objets peints’, sculptural paintings in which the objects are covered with thick strokes of acrylic paint of the same color as the surface it conceals. Lavier does not make the object, nor does he imitate it or use it as simple ready-made, rather, he considers it as a canvas. His work is a reflection on the relation between painting and sculpture, representation and abstraction, life and art.
