"Inner Journeys" april - june 2013

Born in 1967 in Mexico. Lives and works in Montreal.

Rafael Lozano-Hemmer represented his country of origin during the 2007 Venice Biennale. Sculptures, responsive environments, video installations and photographs are all part of Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s body of work. Inspired by phantasmagoria, carnival and animatronics, he develops interactive installations that are at the intersection of architecture and performance art. His installations in public spaces seek to break off the increasingly homogenized urban condition, and his smaller-scaled works explore themes like perception, deception and surveillance.
