Born in China in 1976, he lives and works in Beijing.

Liu Ding is an artist, curator, writer and producer. As an artist, he is active in the fields of photography, installation, theater design and painting. Liu Ding’s art often refers to art history and the mechanisms and rules of the art world. He often invokes other (famous) artists in his work; he also questions Chinese contemporary art and the role of the artist. He co-founded the Office of Art and Theory with Carol Yingua Lu in Beijing. Liu Ding is famous for his ongoing conceptual project Liu Ding’s Store, which he started in 2008. It takes the form of a pop up store that the artist brings to cultural events and art exhibitions, and reflects on the way the art world creates value. Liu Ding represented China at the 2009 Venice Biennial.
