"Inner Journeys" april - june 2013

Born in 1974 in France. Lives and works in Paris.

Jérôme Zonder is inspired by the style of black and white comics. That is why he only uses graphite, charcoal and Indian ink in his creations. One of his main interests lies in the aesthetics of materials such as skins, woods, fabrics and patterns. An intricate plastic language characterizes his work: many disparate styles coexist in his drawings. Zonder uses this graphic dissonance to create a ‘polygraphic system’ that matches his perception of the world. One of his favorite subject matters is childhood, which he explores in an unconventional way. Instead of associating it with innocence, he rather uses infancy to evoke the cruelty and violence of the world.
