"Young Collectors" september - december 2013

Born in 1982 in France. Lives and works in New York.

Marie Vic creates photographs, sculptures and videos that draw on the world of fashion, art history and literature. She frequently uses everyday objects to make assemblages and unusual juxtapositions, which she will later photograph as some sort of still life, exploring their impact on our culture. "I like the irony of having a Polaroid of a unique object that's being repeated in a series,” explains Vic. “I like plastic very much, objects that are made in China. It's probably because I despise them so much. It's something evil that western culture has produced. At the same time I find them very appealing and graphic." Her aim is to seek modes of individuation in the midst of global consumption as well as singularity in the digital age of reproduction.
