Born in 1979 in Norway. Lives and works in Drøbak.

Painter Fredrik Værslev uses products that are primarily not employed for artistic purpose; actually, he finds his material in the garage of his parents. He explores everything he can lay his hands on, from industrial spray paint to rust remover, including fixative or liquid tarmac. The artist applies all these different substances on raw linen, and then leaves the canvas outdoor, subject to weather changes. This way, he tries to recreate the look of used drop cloths. Værslev’s main interests depend on the relationships between abstraction and ornamentation, monochrome and monotony. Moreover, he submits his all-over compositions to elements of chance giving them, this way, some kind of history.
