Born in Valencia in 1942, he lives and works in Madrid and New York.

Together with Spanish artists Juan Antonia Toledo and Rafael Solbes, Manolo Valdés formed Equipo Crónica, a Spanish manifestation of the Pop Art movement of the 1960s, which lasted until the Solbes’ death in 1981. Today, Valdés’ paintings, sculptures and graphic work are heavily inspired by Old Spanish Masters, particularly Baroque painter Diego Velázquez and Romantic painter and printmaker Francisco Goya, seamlessly combining traditional motifs and compositions of art history in his contemporary work.
