Born in The Northern Netherlands (The Netherlands) in 1606, he died in 1669.

While still a teenager, Theodoor Van Thulden moved from ‘s Hertogenbosch to Antwerp, where he began an apprenticeship as a painter. He became a Master of the Saint Luke Guild in 1626, and subsequently was elected dean in 1639 and 1640. His style was highly influenced by the Baroque style of Pieter Paul Rubens, with whom he often collaborated. Rubens and Van Thulden for example collaborated on the decoration of the city of Antwerp for the visit of the Cardinal-Infante Ferdinand, Governor of the Spanish Netherlands. Van Thulden was especially famous for his historical and mythological paintings. After he moved back to his hometown in 1644, he painted several group portraits, a genre that was typical for the region at the time, while continuing to create altarpieces for churches in the Spanish Netherlands (Belgium) as well as a series of allegorical paintings.

She has staged more than 60 performances around the world, each one created for a specific location and often making references to the political, historical or social context of the place. Although Beecroft almost never appears in her performances, she considers them as a sort of self-portrait or a diary, revolving around issues very close to her, like eating disorders, obsession for fashion and provocative use of nudity.
