"Obsession" january - march 2015

Born in Germany in 1960, he lives and works in Germany.

Neo Rauch, along with Georg Baselitz and Gerhard Richter, is one of the most important German figurative painters today. Neo Rauch’s paintings mine the intersection of his personal history with the politics of industrial alienation. They are characterized by a unique combination of realism and surrealist abstraction. In many of his compositions, human figures engage in manual labor or indeterminable tasks against backdrops of mundane architecture, industrial settings, or bizarre and often barren landscapes.
