"Resonance(s)" april - june 2014

Born in 1965 in Spain. Lives and works between Madrid and Binissalem.

Bernardí Roig incorporates in his creations tubes of fluorescent light as an element which links his sculptural work with the painting medium. The human figure is depicted as a dramatic subject that carries the weight of the existence and who is aware of an inevitable tragic fate. His installations are characterized by a theatrical staging, where light plays a central role. Roig’s works have an intrinsic narrative quality; the human figure is usually the subject of the action, but surrounding elements are also part of the story. The artist is concerned with the themes of anxiety and of desperation as well as with the loss of individuality in the contemporary society.
