"Inner Journeys" april - june 2013

Born in 1970 in Brazil. Lives and works in São Paulo.

Mônica Rubinho works encompass photography, sculpture and drawing. Her creations refer to the symbolic and affective perception of things, establishing subtly boundaries between reality and representation. She has a preference for fragile materials such as fine, transparent papers and thin cotton fabrics, which she embroiders with silk threads, or draws with ink and stamps. Rubinho also incorporates elements of nature in her creations, such as real nests of small birds, branches and pearls. Her works are usually in small formats, full of details and overlapped layers that invite the viewer to take a closer look.
