"Lightness?" january - march 2012

Born in 1970 in Germany. Lives and works in Berlin.

Anselm Reyle creates large-scale abstract paintings and found-object sculptures using trashy, glitzy materials. The use of silver foil, neon colours, mirrors and glitter gives his essentially abstract works a seductive edge. Reyle recycles and actualises the formal accomplishments of abstract modernism, and subsequently reapplies them in function of an entirely new pictorial language. By exploring the fringes of Art and design or kitsch he creates art works that simultaneously confront us with a conceptual nihilism.
