"Young Collectors" september - december 2013

Born in 1972 in the USA. Lives and works in New York.

Marlo Pascual uses found imagery and film as starting point in her work, creating sculptures, installations and images by applying strategies borrowed from artistic movements such as Conceptual Art, Surrealism, Minimalism, and Arte Povera. She gives new life to vintage photographs she finds on eBay and thrift stores, then folds, cuts and even pierces them with unexpected sculptural elements like rocks, neon lights and candle sconces. The subjects are removed from their previous context and recast in new roles. Pascual is interested in the exploration of an image’s active presence by playing with the relations between the artwork, the space and the viewer.
