"Icon(s)" april - july 2015

Born in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1948, he lives and works in Paris.

Dimitrijević’s work looks into the topics of history and the invidual’s place in it. He became famous with his Casual passer-by series, for which he displayed gigantic portraits of everyday people on billboards and facades in Europe and America and created honorary plaques for anonymous people. He also makes installations in which he places original paintings borrowed from museums all around the world next to everyday objects. These interventions in museum collections illustrate his now famous statement: “Louvre is my studio, street is my museum.”
