Born in Belgium in 1965, he lives and works in Ghent.

Wim Delvoye is known for his often provocative and shocking projects, like the Cloaca, a machine reproducing the operation of the digestive system, or his tattooed pigs. Delvoye takes an everyday object and transforms it into what undoubtedly becomes art. The object to art transition is central in his work; Delvoye’s interest lies mainly in the understanding of the “grey zone” in between the two. Delvoye does not work alone in his studio, but is surrounded by a group of technicians and specialists. Each object is designed, tested and tried out in different variations. An important production line consists of his ‘gothic’ works: a series of monumental metal models or replicas, sometimes on a scale of 1 to 1, of industrial equipment or machinery in ‘gothic style’.
